COURSE OVERVIEW

The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health is an internationally recognized health and safety qualification from an established independent examination board with over 25 years' experience in providing up-to-date and relevant examinations. The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) is registered in United Kingdom. (For more details, see www.nebosh.org.uk )

This course has been developed for multinational organisations in all sectors, mindful of international standards or directives and at the same time adaptive to local needs. It seeks to provide an excellent underpinning knowledge of health and safety, as well as a sound basis for evaluating (and managing) potential hazards and risks. The syllabus incorporates international, technical and other standards where they exist. In other cases, requirements and practices that represent 'good practice' are followed.

The contents of the course are covered in two units (each with eight elements) and their applications are practised and tested in the third unit :-

Unit IGC 1 : Management of International Health & Safety

  1. Health and Safety Foundations
  2. Setting policy for health and safety
  3. Organising for health and safety
  4. Promoting a positive health and safety culture
  5. Risk Assessment
  6. Principles of Control
  7. Monitoring, review and audit
  8. Occupational incident Investigation
    investigation, recording and reporting

Unit IGC 2 : Control of International Workplace Hazards

  1. Movement of people and vehicles - hazards and control
  2. Manual and Mechanical handling - hazards and control
  3. Working Equipment - hazards and control
  4. Electrical Hazards and control
  5. Fire Hazards
  6. Chemical and biological health hazards and control
  7. Physical and psychological health hazards and control
  8. Construction activities - hazards and control

Unit IGC 3 : International Health & Safety Practical Application

The completion of a health & safety assessment of a workplace and a report to management.

The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) follows the same principles as the National General Certificate (NGC) — achieving high standards of health and safety — regardless of local legal requirements.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Personnel with health & safety responsibilities, e.g. managers, supervisors, safety officers, and non-safety specialists, etc. who need a grounding and a recognised qualification in occupational safety and health.

Those who want to further their career in the HSE field or those who wish to enhance their HSE knowledge, especially full-time company employees or individuals.

BENEFITS FOR COMPANIES

In today's working environment, 'Safety' plays a key role in the success of any company. Ensuring that line managers have a sound understanding of the principles of managing risk is a key building block of an effective safety culture.

The NEBOSH IGC will benefit organizations with a global presence, especially those which are seeking to implement good health and safety management across all areas of their operations, in accordance with international standards. The course provides a means of improving the safety awareness of company employees, particularly those involved in operations that are directly related to safety.

COURSE ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION

Candidates are assessed by an examination for each unit : IGC1; IGC 2 and IGC3 (a practical health & safety assessment of a workplace situation). Each exam lasts two hours. To be awarded the NEBOSH certificate, candidates must achieve a minimum pass standard in all the examinations and assessment. Certification is issued by NEBOSH UK.
