DISTANCE LEARNING IFC

To achieve the FULL qualification candidates must also hold the NEBOSH IGC1 qualification unit.

OPTION 1

Candidates with work experience in fire safety or general safety for more than 2 years and hold the NEBOSH IGC1 or full IGC can register automatically for the course by clicking APPLY NOW. A copy of your IGC1 or full IGC qualification will be requested on formal enrolment. The IGC1 qualification must have been completed within a five year period.

OPTION 2

Candidates without IGC1 can also register but will need to complete IGC1 first before attempting IFC1 and FC2 examinations. Please look at our bundle offers and book this option.

OPTION 3

Candidates with limited work experience but hold the NEBOSH IGC can also register by sending their CV to safetyadmin1@kbassociates.org for verification and approval.

RE-SIT ONLY CANDIDATES

Registration will only be accepted from KBAT/KBAE NEBOSH IFC candidates who have approval from their tutor (obtained when all assignments or tuition has been completed).

Candidates whose first language is not English may be entitled to Reasonable Adjustment and be given an extra 30 minutes. They must inform KBAT before the examination as NEBOSH approval must be sought. RA candidates will require a hard copy dictionary for use during the examination.

There will be an additional fee to the British Council payable in local currency.

About This Course

The NEBOSH International Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management is a new qualification for those with fire safety responsibilities in the workplace.

The training will assist personnel in carrying out fire risk assessments and identify the range of measures one will need to minimize the risk of fire in the workplace; thereafter help to raise the standards of fire risk management in workplaces across the world.

COURSE CONTENT

The NEBOSH International Fire Certificate course is split into three units of study, each of which is assessed separately:

UNIT IGC1: Management of International Health and Safety * 

  • Foundations in Health and Safety
  • Health and Safety Management Systems 1 - Plan
  • Health and Safety Management Systems 2 - Do
  • Health and Safety Management Systems 3 - Check
  • Health and Safety Management Systems 4 - Act

UNIT IFC1: Fire Safety and Risk Management

  • Managing Fire Safety
  • Principles of Fire and Explosion
  • Causes and Prevention of Fires
  • Fire Protection in Buildings
  • Safety of People in the Event of a Fire
  • Fire Safety Risk Assessment

UNIT IFC2: Workplace-Based Practical Assessment (Fire Risk Assessment)

Note * - If you have been awarded a NEBOSH International General Certificate in the last 5 years you will be exempt from IGC1 and can simply 'top up' with the specialist unit and practical assessment to achieve the new award.

ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION

The course is assessed through written examinations for each of the units and a practical fire risk assessment. A unit certificate is issued denoting successful achievement of each unit. After successful completion of the two units and practical assessment, you will attain the certificate of NEBOSH International Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management.

Examinations are held on the last day of the course or for distance learners four times per year at any British Council or participating university.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP

  • Holders of the International Fire Certificate are entitled to Associate Membership (AIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The qualification also meets the academic requirements for Technical Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).
  • It also provides eligibility for Technician Membership (TIFPO) of the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO) and meets the academic requirements for Associate Membership (AMIFPO).  Persons with the relevant skills and experience may also apply to join the IFPO Fire Risk Assessors Register.
  • The NEBOSH International Fire Certificate has been accredited and credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). It sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6 with 13 SCQF credit points.

    SCQF Level 6 is comparable to NQF/QCF Level 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. See the “Qualifications Can Cross Boundaries” chart issued by the UK regulators, available here.

LEARNING OPTIONS

  • FULL TIME TRAINING
    Full Time training will be delivered face to face over a 5-day period with examinations on the final day or Saturday.
  • E-LEARNING
    E-learning is delivered via our interactive portal over a three month period per unit (options to extend).
  • DISTANCE LEARNING
    Distance learning is delivered via hardcopy course materials and email contact with the tutor for assignments over a 12 month period (options to extend).
  • COMBINED LEARNING
    This option combines e-learning and distance learning so candidates have access to our interactive portal and hardcopy course materials.
  • BLENDED LEARNING
    This is a combination of full time with e-learning/distance options to aid the learning experience.

IN-HOUSE TRAINING
