FIRST RUN OF COMPRESSED AIR WORKS COURSE (MEDICAL LOCK) – ACCREDITED BY MINISTRY OF MANPOWER SINGAPORE
Mandatory training for personnel who are assigned as medical lock attendants or required to work in a compressed air environment.
Singapore, 28 April 2015 Tuesday - KBA Training Centre (KBAT) has completed its first Compressed Air Works (Medical Lock) course held on the 13 – 19 April 2015. This course is accredited by Ministry of Manpower Singapore and is mandatory seven day training for personnel who are assigned as medical lock attendants to control the compression and decompression of workers who are required to work in a compressed air (CA) environment.
The instructors were Alan Rhodes, Head of Diving Training Department; Wayne Lee, Head of Medical Department and hyperbaric doctor, Dr. Kevin Chan. Feedback from the delegates was encouraging, “The instructor is very knowledgeable." - Guo Shou Xi from Shanghai Tunnel Engineering and “The instructor is very good.” - Albert Per from Red Horn Engineering Pte Ltd. Some other feedback included - thecourse was interesting and the hands-on training at the hyperbaric chamber deepened their understanding of what is required in their job.
The course covers the WSH Act and subsidiary legislation governing compressed air works, the roles and responsibilities, the medical condition of compressed air illnesses/decompressed illnesses), carrying out compression of personnel before entering into CA environment, carrying out decompression of personnel who are leaving CA environment, applying oxygen first aid, chamber nursing and more.
After completion of the training, all delegates expressed interest to partake in further personal and career improvement by attending the upcoming MOM approved Compressed Air Works Course (Man-Lock Attendant) which is scheduled on the 25th to 29th May 2015.
Mr. Alan Rhodes commented, “According to Singapore Workplace Safety & Health (Construction) Regulations 2007, it states ‘Suitably qualified and experienced persons shall be appointed, who shall at all times be in control of the air supply plant and be in attendance at the worksite when any person is employed in a compressed air environment.’ As such, it is imperative that the occupier of a worksite complies with these regulations as any person who contravenes any provision of these regulations is liable to a fine of up to $20,000, imprisonment up to 2 years or both. I encourage all companies involved in tunneling and/or compressed air works to ensure they are fully compliant in these areas.”
